My Doll making journey has well and truly begun

Hi all, it’s been a while since I updated the blog to what I’m ‘really’ doing with my time lately…Doll making.

I got into it a little bit by chance, being a crafty person naturally curious about anything to do with sewing I purchase my first teddy bear pattern. I liked it but sewing furry fabric being a bit tedious and given that there’s a limit to customising options…I got my first ballerina stuffed doll pattern from www.dollsanddaydreams.etsy.com. And moved on from there really…

Now, I paint, sew, stuff, sew clothes and love it!! the sky’s the limit. Getting better with experience too, It’s a journey that I’ve undertaken and that I can’t see myself stopping anytime soon lol.

I started with felt hair dolls based on Wee bit of whimsy patterns (available here )….

Little Chyo - One of A Kind Cloth Japanese Doll

Gretel - a-not-so-school-girl cloth doll ooak

(available here)

And then I thought I’d love my dolls to have ‘real’ hair…

Sorcha the Galway Girl - Handpainted and handmade ooak cloth doll

(available here)

and more photos of my dolls on my facebook page that I update regularly with promotions and giveaway. at the moment I’m offering FREE WORLWIDE SHIPPING for the last one of my tahitian dolls on the left…If you are on Facebook what don’t you pop over to the page and have a wee look around? ^_^

Getting ready for a local market

Tomorrow, I’ll be setting up a table at the Mullingar indoor market in co.westmeath. I’m a little nervous as a free table came up sooner than expected. So it meant that I had to make some stock and order carrier bags and other supplies fast. Last week, just when I really needed to get on with serious sewing, I was waiting for my new sewing machine ( early anniversary gift from my dear husband). I’m still getting used to all the computer options and 200 or so stitches. It doesn’t look much but my first criteria was that it had to be sturdy and take yards and yards of ruffling and fabric. So hopefully I’ll get a good few years of sewing on that machine

Anyway, I managed to get a thing or two done, like a couple of toddler skirts and a few vests…

ruffled bum bum, cute!

Jewellery and accessories will also be on the table.

I’m a bit nervous about tomorrow, hope everything goes ok…will let you know,

smile,

Virginie

Have you seen these?!

First post written in a while, I know…And I missed writing and posting about things I like and things I make. So even though it’s been brillant to catch up with other more important things, I’ll try to get back into a more regular posting mood.

That said: Have you seen these?! Seriously, I’d like your opinion: do you think they look humongusly ridicule, or they look absolutly fab?

_ASC6266

_ASC6494

If you’ve fallen in love with them, they can be gotten here at the little fashion gallery for a mere E65… have a look at the other models…what’s your verdict?

I’ve been working on…

a few bits and pieces, but Baby has been teething badly on and off for a couple of weeks now…he’s been snotty and feverish and clingy as well as cutting 3 teeth at a time!

Here’s a couple of bits I’ve been doing…

Eye masks with travel pouch wich is ok for travelling but for migraines, a blackout fabric as backing would probably be more suitable. Still need to work on that one

Custom order for a French Jewelry roll

And two more rolls for the shop you can see more pictures here and here

I hope to make more makeup bags and gift sets soon, I’ve got some nice fabric I’d like to use but just didn’t get a chance lately to do more sewing… Also I’ll have to update you with my dressmaking class, It’s quite exciting as I’ll be probably finishing my dress next week at the class. I finally settled for this pattern Vogue 8278, but I must tell you more about it next time and show you the fabric I picked…

Til next time then!

Bead Soup Party Reveal AND Giveaway

*Glad you could make it! This is a long post with loads of pictures, read till the end for the Giveaway*
Beaders were paired up with other jewelry designers and tasked with sending a focal, a special clasp and coordinating beads.
My partner is Rachel from Balanced and the organizer of this BSP is Lori from Lori Anderson Designs.
Thanks a million to you Both!

Here‘s what I received:

A very earthly selection with blue crystals…blues, browns, ecrus…nice! (see more pictures here) Unusual for me as I do more colorful and lampwork and sterling silver Jewellery. Unfortunately, when Wire wrapping the handcrafted pendant, here’s what happened:

N o t     g r e a t.

So I had to rethink my piece ( using one of Rach’s lentil beads as pendant) and came up with TWO pieces. Hope you like…

I made all the copper links myself. Not bad considering I’d never used copper before in my life.

And added a cute little porcelaine birdie..

‘Copper Bird Song Necklace’

 and my second piece…

An interchangeable watch bracelet…
So hope you liked what you saw!
Now, here’s my Giveaway:
A  Lavender polka dots framed coin purse with matching ring holder to use as a jewelry case (if you prefer as opposed to a coin purse).
**Obviously, rings are not included lol**
I will be making more of these lovelies soon. Photos of sold purses here and here

The Bead Soup Party Ingredients I received

…From Balanced. I know, I have had them for a couple of weeks now. However waiting for a bit of sunshine in this part of the world to take pictures takes like forever. So in the end, I decided to stuck them on the kitchen counter, juggling between a rubbish camera and a non existing light lol.

Here they are…Thank you Rach for giving me the opportunity to challenge myself : I have never used copper before and I’ve been meaning to give it a go for ages, so that’s great !

Beaded bead, round quartz beads, resin lentils

 Stone beads

swarovski and czeck crystals, handcrafted pendant

Handmade copper toggle

See here the bead selection I sent to Rachel and you can actually check out what other BSP goers have sent here on Flicker

Bead Soup Party reveal on the 26th February!! Stay tuned…

Have I told you about my Bear?

Weeks ago, I went to the Birmingham NEC Craft fair. A very good friend of mine is a Pastry Chef and works in Sugar craft. The cake show was on at the same time as the craft fair and she invited me to come along. (I should have written a post about it but the pictures I got are on my phone and I can’t seem to find the cables to get them on the computer-sorry I’m not great with technology in general lol)

I had the best time, meeting lampworkers, crafters, jewellery makers and…teddy bear makers!

These teddy bears are the cutest edgiest thing ever! Barbara and Andy from Barbara-Ann bears handcraft traditional and modern bears. They even do dragons!  I fell in love with the ’new wild bears’ and so Betty and I bought a kit to make Kerfuffle and a pattern to make Pugwangler.

(This a photo of the front page of my pattern to make Kerfuffle)

Their kit contains hand died Mohair (Barbara does it herself and you can find her mohair pieces here) glass eyes, threads…

As you can see, my teddy is going to be green/turquoise, very hairy and very soft…So many colors and types of mohair to choose from!

So I’m sort of slowly making it: pattern traced and cut out… I’ m taking my time and really don’t know how it’s going to come together. But eh! If Teddy looks presentable, I’ll show it to you. Hopefully…^_^

Baby goodies

A childhood friend of mine had a baby girl called Margaux 2 weeks ago. So in a last minute rush ( yep, misslastminute.com it’s me) I quilted a cute little quilt. She can use it to  put down the baby or as a play mat or just a cuddly blankie. Also Dale, our quilt mentor who started

Quilt Quorner here in Athlone and taught us girls to quilt, had given me for Dylan a little cuddly square, full of colours and textures. So I thought I’d make one for Marguaux too. Thanks Dale!!

Here’s what I came up with:

(Here’s Dylan’s cheeky hand there on the left lol)

(Flannel I got at the Rds show a few weeks back.Cute little birdies! Top stitched with gold thread)
